On May 26th, 2025 the Faculty of Medicine of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg celebrated the Young Research Day!

Promoting young researchers is one of the fundamental aspects of our university and of the associated research institutes. We believe that supporting young scientists is a key component of scientific excellence and social responsibility. Only through targeted support of young scientists can innovation, knowledge acquisition, and sustainable progress be ensured. Young researchers bring fresh ideas, new perspectives, and the courage to collaborate across disciplines – and thus make a strong contribution to the advancement of science and research. We want to give them space to experiment, network, and develop their skills. With programs, events, and individual support, we create an environment in which scientific talent can flourish – for the benefit of science, society, and future generations.

Hence, for the Young Research Day young researchers from various research groups, doctoral students, and medical students were brought together for scientific exchange. Through informative lectures, poster presentations, and direct interaction with other young scientists as well as with established researchers, participants gained valuable insights not only into what is going on in other institutes, research training programs, and working groups, but also into possible future prospects.

The dedicated participation of young researchers, who presented their research topics in a poster session, was particularly noteworthy. All young scientists had the chance to present their research on a poster – more than 80 posters were submitted.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the poster prizes, which recognized outstanding contributions in the categories of medicine, natural sciences, and in the category newcomers. The winners each received prize money of €400.

To that aim, each young scientist, who brought a poster, had to „defend“ it. A jury talked to all participants – but with a catch. The young scientists had only two minutes to explain their research. This is a challenge!

From our Research Training Group SynAGE multiple PhD and MD students participated. All of them prepared interesting posters and explained their research very well. Many of the posters were surrounded by numerous colleagues – also youngs scientists – who wanted to ask their questions. And as talking makes thirsty, there were drinks and Bretzels provided by the organizors.

All in all, the Young Research Day 2025 was a resounding success and offered young researchers an excellent platform for networking and presenting their work. We are looking forward to the Young Research Day 2026!
